About the artist
Alex Marshall’s ceramics can be described as beautifully functional sculpture. Many have referred to her work as organic — an elegant mixture of art and chance. But she takes a highly skilled and deliberate approach to her art.

Ms. Marshall, who studied painting and ceramics sculpture at Skidmore College and received her MFA in conceptual art from the San Francisco Art Institute, designs and produces dinnerware and ceramics with an authenticity to both beauty and function. Her collections cannot be described as either formal or casual dining — it’s artful dining.

"I wanted to design a line which maintains the intent and authenticity of the individually handcrafted piece," says Alex. "Each piece retains its own integrity, seen in the slight asymmetry, while remaining a clean modern form." When stacked, her plates resemble layers of rock or the gentle lines of a palm frond. This paradox of strength and grace is exactly the juxtaposition with which she feels comfortable. Her signature glazes are layered in naturally composed earthy colors and texture.

Alex’s work is represented in some of the finest stores in the country, in addition to custom projects - including magazine, cookbook and television stylings, restaurants, special events, public and private home staging, and floral design.

All Alex Marshall Studios ceramics are lead free, microwaveable, residential dishwasher safe, can be warmed in the oven and are manufactured at their facility in Corning, California.

Longevity is Green;
As a design company, we're encouraged by the increasing number of smart solutions to improve the planet. Not all of our designs fit into every category of ecological perfection, but there is one aspect of "green" that's true for everything we produce: longevity. When something is made to last, you don't have to buy it again, which decreases the impact on natural resources and keeps waste out of landfills. In addition, all of our ceramics and glazes are made in Northern California, which means less fuel consumption and production consumption.
